THE FRUGAL FASHIONISTA GOES WEBCRAWLING:
Being a Frugal Fashionista does not only necessitate one to look for the best bargains, but finding the right inspiration for the right outfit is key. Here are some of my favorite websites to get me through the whole "what-am-I-gonna-wear-tonight?" dilemma. Enjoy!
The top 5 fashion websites of the week:
1. The Sartorialist (http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/) One of the best fashion blogs to date, The Sartorialist, chronicles New York City street style through the lenses of Scott
Schuman, a former sales and marketing exec for upscale labels such as Valentino, Helmut Lang, and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Selected by TIME Magazine as one of the Top 100 Design Influencers, Schuman's photographs have served as inspirations for designers' lookbooks and artists' sketches.
2. lookbook (http://lookbook.nu/) Lookbook.nu calls itself an "international social experiment in style". People from all over the world upload photos of their outfits. The styles featured on the website are fresh and inventive. You have to be a member to upload photos. Membership is by invitation only, so you either have to know one of the members or be in the fashion industry.
3. Tokyo Street Style (http://www.style-arena.jp/street/) I have always loved the Japanese culture: sushi, Zen Buddhism, minimalism, Comme des Garcons, geisha traditions, anime, and many more. One of my favorite sites to browse for street wear, this site shows a very eclectic mix of Japanese street fashion, from the minimalistic to the over-the-top Harajuku style.
4. New York Magazine (http://nymag.com/fashion/) Being a former New Yorker, it behooves me not to include this. This website features not only recent runway shows, designers, and models, but it also has the Model Manual. Dedicated to the hottest ramapadoras, the Model Manual has feature articles on models, model bios, and photos on and off the runway.
5. Vogue (http://www.style.com/) Of course, this would not be complete without the online home of Vogue. Not only does this website feature photos and videos from the most recent runway shows, the latest fashion trends, a fabulous beauty section, fashion blogs, and celebrity fashion, but, it enables the user to create their own lookbooks! This is my favorite feature. You can go through the thousands of photographs on the website and all it takes is a simple click to include the look in your very own lookbook. |
