Since the release of the iPhone 3G several months ago, millions of people have clamored over these little wonders of technology. A few others though, refuse to give in due to the carrier exclusivity. They want to be able to get the iPhone but use any carrier they want. Or be able to go to another country, just buy a SIM card and use the iPhone without any roaming charges! Now these individuals can start 2009 right by buying an iPhone and downloading an application called Yellowsn0w.

 

Released by a group of programmers called the iPhone Dev Team on January 1st, Yellowsn0w is now officially a sensation all over the world. With successful unlocks from as far as Afghanistan, Chile, Norway, the Philippines, and even the UAE, it has a pretty good unlock success rate of around 85%.

Using this software seems to be pretty easy. Upgrade your iPhone firmware to version 2.2 (VERY IMPORTANT!), jailbreak using QuickPwn, install via Cydia and follow the simple steps below:

1. Install BossPrefs and Yellowsn0w from Cydia/Installer
2. Disable everything in BossPrefs
3. Reboot your iPhone using BossPrefs
4. Wait for the iPhone to boot up
5. Take out your SIM card and reinsert it back in
6. Wait a moment or two
7. In settings turn on Airplane mode
8. Turn off Airplane mode
9. All done!
