The best albums of 2009 Part II.
2009 was an exceptional year for music. Here is part II of our best album picks. Lungs by Florence and the Machine The critically-acclaimed debut album of Florence Welch, not only has been a blog favorite, but has already achieved huge commercial success in the UK, making platinum three times over. What's intriguing about Florence is her vulnerability, combined with a sort of eccentric glamour. Musically, her stunning and soulful vocals makes the perfect combination to her ethereal music. The Filter Picks: "You've Got The Love", "Hardest of Hearts", "Falling", "Kiss With A Fist"
Two Suns by Bat for Lashes Natasha Khan's (also known as Bat for Lashes) sophomore album, Two Suns, is as good if not better than her debut album, Fur and Gold. A product of her journey to the Joshua Tree National Park, the album focuses on her alter ego, Pearl, and the exploration of "self and duality". The Filter Picks: "Daniel", "Pearl's Dream", "Moon and Moon", "Two Planets"
Fantasies by Metric The 4th album from the Canadian indie rock band proves that things can only get better for the quartet. Though I am such a huge fan of their previous albums, the album presents a natural musical progression for the group. The album also includes a re-release of the track, "Help, I'm Alive". The Filter Picks: "Gold Guns Girls", "Twilight Galaxy", "Blindness", "Sick Muse"
Miike Snow by Miike Snow The Swedish band's eponymous debut album features catchy electro pop that reminds you of Animal Collective and The Killers (before they got all commercial). The band is set to go on tour in January 2010 so listen to their music before they stop by your neck of the woods. The Filter picks: "Animal", "Plastic Jungle", "Cult Logic", Silvia"
La Roux by La Roux La Roux is made up of Elly Jackson on vocals, and composer/producer Ben Langmaid. Quickly becoming a music sensation with their synthpop tracks, the duo has been nominated as Best New Act for MTV Europe. The Filter Picks: "Quicksand", Bulletproof", "Armour Love", "In For the Kill"
LP by Discovery Discovery is the indie-electronica project of Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend and Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot. Largely electro, with a generous helping of R&B, and a huge dose of addictive pop, this album totally makes the list. The Filter Picks: "Osaka Loop Line", "I Want You Back", "Slang Tang", "Can You Discover?"
Coming up in Part III: Julian Casablancas, Metronomy, Neon Indian, and more. |
